Mattersey photo receives artistic honour

A few weeks ago, Sally Outram submitted her photo of a wintery shot of Mattersey near Retford into Experience Nottinghamshire’s photography competition. Little did she know that this would set off a chain of events that would end up with the shot being commemorated as a top painting. When her photo, entitled ‘Lone Tree’ reached the top 30 finalists in the competition, it was posted on the Love Notts Facebook page and an artist picked up on the scene who asked Sally’s permission to paint it. With Sally’s agreement, Yorkshire watercolour artist Glenn Marshall set to work on the piece and since then things have really taken off. The final painting has received excellent reviews and the story has also appeared in the Retford Times. In January the painting will be auctioned off to raise money for the RNLI and Sally is hopeful of TV interest to help publicise the auction and the good cause it hopes to help. Her picture has also become something of a local cause celeb in Mattersey, appearing on the front cover of the village magazine. A framed copy of the photo is being used to raise money for Mattersey Village Jubilee Fund. Speaking to Experience Nottinghamshire through the Love Notts Facebook page, Sally said ‘Thanks to my being shortlisted in your super competition my work was spotted and has been painted by a fabulous artist. It is set to raise (along with the painting) money for two great causes! I'm proud it's a lovely Nottinghamshire Village scene too!’   The RNLI auction will take place at the end of January, further information about dates and how to bid will be posted on the Experience Nottinghamshire Love Notts Facebook page.
