Things to do between Christmas and New Year

If you’re anything like me, by the time Boxing Day comes around you’re already going up the walls and are ready to get out and about, either to catch some fresh air or totally detox yourself from Christmas Day’s binge. And if you’re still like me, the thought of going and hitting the sales is quite possibly the worst thing to do, so here’s some options for attractions that are open between Christmas and New Year. Boxing Day: why not take a stroll around the lake at Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve or Wollaton Park. If you fancy being entertained, you’ll find Pantos at the Theatre Royal and Nottingham Playhouse - both productions come highly recommended. You could also pamper yourself at Thoresby Hall Spa. Tuesday 27 December: adding to the above are Lakeside Arts Centre with their great new exhibition on LS Lowry, outdoor pursuits and karting at the One 4 All Group and Nottinghamshire’s Great Central Railway. If you were fortunate enough to get engaged recently, check out Hodsock Priory’s Wedding Open day between 11am and 3pm. Wednesday 28 December: by now we’ve got plenty more places available to visit. Useful additions to the scene are the Galleries of Justice, Nottingham Castle, Newstead Abbey, Green’s Windmill, The Museum of Nottingham Life, Wheelgate and Twinlakes Theme Parks, and Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Centre. Thursday 29 December and Friday 30 December: The Harley Gallery comes on board with the attractions above. New Years Eve: with the slight exception of the Galleries of Justice, most of the attractions mentioned above are open, although we do recommend that you check opening times before hand here. Another place worthy of note is Southwell Minster and Tea Shop. New Years Day: we’re back to a limited number of venues available, including Rufford Abbey, Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve, Wollaton Park, Wheelgate, Twinlakes and Thoresby Hall Hotel and Spa. Bank Holiday Monday: welcoming the New Year in now are those open on New Years Day with the National Justice Museum and the One 4 All Group. A great addition here is the Heroes and Villains Tour around Nottingham at 2pm, an excellent way to spend the bank holiday afternoon.
