Light Night Nottingham Goes Live

Following the recent success stories of Nottingham Light Night over the past five years, events for this year have got even bigger via an innovative partnership thanks to We Are Nottingham. The organisation, which is the Business Improvement District for Nottingham and represents the licensed premises across the city, has helped bring together a live music and entertainment festival at some 23 venues across the city. Anticipated highlights of this year’s festival will be at The Bodega Social Club for live music from rock, soul and folk artists. If you’d prefer to steer clear of live music then you could try DJ’s and a special light show at Saltwater or an Ultra Violet display at Walkabout featuring cannons and bubbles. Sylvia Oates, chief executive of We Are Nottingham, commented   “The live music and entertainment programme adds a new, dynamic aspect to Light Night. The response level from licensed venues has been overwhelming and it’s great to see so many people joining together to show that Nottingham is a welcoming and vibrant city at night.   “The licensees have worked hard to create a really varied set of events that cater for all tastes and ages and it goes to show that the city centre really does offer something for everyone. We’re going all out to make it a night to remember.” Across the city there will be a whole host of evening of art projections, displays and events in conjunction with Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Trent University, New College Nottingham, Nottingham Contemporary, The Theatre Royal and more. Selected highlights from this year’s schedule include image projections on to the front of the Council House in Old Market Square and individually crafted chocolate with lace patterns at the Nottingham tourism centre. You’ll also find modern Olympic sword fighting displays in the ballroom of the Council House and maybe have a go yourself. A special dream walking trail is available from the event marquee behind the Exchange Arcade, the route will allow you to discover image projections in secret locations in the city centre. But it’s the addition of the live music and entertainment festival that’s really enhanced this year’s Light Night and will ensure that it’s the biggest yet. Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Tourism at Nottingham City Council, said: "We are delighted that We Are Nottingham are bringing this new twist to Light Night.
