Coverage of this year’s Robin Hood Festival has been broadcast in Ukraine on the country’s most watched television channel.

Every year, Nottinghamshire County Council’s festival in Sherwood Forest, which is dedicated to the famous outlaw, attracts interest from people both in Europe and across the globe.

Oksana Kundirenko, Yury Khreptovich and Jyldyz Kasymova, visited the festival’s final day on Sunday, August 11, to film the festivities, meet entertainers, members of the public and report on the annual event for Inter TV.

Oksana explained that the story of Robin Hood is a big favourite in the Ukraine and a popular choice to be found on children’s bookshelves. Her film was shown on the news show ‘Podrobnosti’ - the top information programme on Inter TV.

Oksana, a British bureau correspondent for Inter TV, said: “Summer time is a lovely time to show something colourful and fun. As Ukrainian children also know the tale about Robin Hood and his brothers, the festival was interesting for our audience.”

Nottinghamshire County Council manages Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve and Culture Committee Chairman Councillor John Knight said: “We have a lot of interest every year in the Robin Hood Festival from visitors across the globe because the Legend of Robin Hood has such a huge international profile.”

Inter TV is the most popular television channel in the Ukraine watched by around a third of viewers in Ukraine, whose population is around 45million. Inter TV is the only Ukrainian media with its own news bureaus operating permanently in the USA (Washington D.C.), United Kingdom (London), Germany (Berlin), Belgium (Brussels), Poland (Warsaw) and Russian Federation (Moscow).

Last year, around a dozen journalists from across the globe, who were in the UK reporting on London 2012, also visited the festival as part of a media visit organised with support from Experience Nottinghamshire.

And American fans in Sherwood, Oregon, and from the New York Renaissance Faire have been keeping in touch with the festival’s developments this year through the county council’s Facebook Festival Folk campaign, www.facebook.com/robinhood
