Explore Nottinghamshire on a festive walk during your winter break

What are you planning to do during the Christmas period? Notts has some incredible network of waterways which entail some lovely, scenic walks, so why not explore outdoors and walk off your Christmas turkey on a festive walk with the family?

Newark Castle, overlooking the River Trent: The Castle has proudly stood along the banks of the River Trent for nearly 900 years. During your visit on the river walk, stop off and enjoy a historically tour of Newark Castle and discover how it was destroyed during the Civil War. Gunthorpe Lock: This beautiful lock is a popular part of the River Trent and is a great place to explore the countryside of Nottinghamshire. Gunthorpe is also a popular stop off point for boaters on the River Trent, as it is a great destination for lunch and evening meals, such as Tom Brown’s Brasserie.

Victoria Embankment: Go for a walk in the park at Victoria Embankment, near Nottingham City Centre. The popular site is brilliant for walkers who wish to explore the townscape and visit historical sites along the route. Make sure to pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s statue, which arrived in 1953, the bandstand which is used at the annual Riverside Festival and the Memorial Arch.

Trent Lock: Enjoy a brisk winter walk and discover the area of a major navigation junction, where four waterways meet.

Stoke Bardolph Lock: Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful, rural location that is Stoke Lock – a minor waterway place on the River Trent. The Canals and River Trust is extremely keen on getting you to explore and enjoy the canals and rivers which are a wonderful place to visit.
