Make the most of your Christmas holidays in Nottinghamshire

When Christmas is finally over you might be wondering what to do with yourself before the New Year’s celebrations get underway. Today we are unveiling our round-up of the official winter opening times for venues and attractions between 24 December and 1 January. Enjoy the natural surroundings of Sherwood Forest, take an invigorating Boxing Day run amongst the deer at Wollaton Hall and Park or find a bargain at one of our shopping centres and independent stores. Nottingham City Council heritage attractions: From 3 November until 14 February, Nottingham City Council sites will be operating its winter season opening hours. • Green’s Windmill: Closed 24, 25, 26, 27 December and 1 January 2014
• Newstead Abbey: Closed 24, 25, 26 December and 1 January 2014
• Nottingham Castle: Closed 23 – 26, 30, 31 December and 1 January 2014
• Wollaton Park: Closed 25 December 

Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland in Old Market Square will be closed 25 December and 1 January. The last chance to go outdoor skating in Nottingham will be 5 January (11am – 6pm on this date). Make sure to get your skates on before it’s too late! Or book a place on the Nottingham Heroes and Villains Tour on New Year’s Day at 2pm and see the hometown of Robin Hood like you’ve never seen it before. Nottingham County Council attractions: Take in the sights, smells and sounds of the legendary Sherwood Forest on 24 December with a Christmas Eve Walk, while on 26 December you can take part in a Boxing Day Revival Walk. Bag yourself a bargain: Nottinghamshire is well-known for its excellent shopping so why not hit the sales and treat yourself to something special? Intu Victoria Centre and Broadmarsh have revealed that the only day of closure will be Christmas Day itself - after that you can indulge in all the bargains which are up for grabs. However, only selected stores will be open within the centres so it is worth checking out the list of stores that are open on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Nottingham’s Marks and Spencer, on Albert Street, will be open as usual from 26th December, so swing by if you want to stock up on Christmas decor for 2014 What will you be doing during Christmas and New Year?
