WIN tickets to see Agnes of God at the Lace Market Theatre

A play which examines ideas surrounding faith, memory and the meaning of Sainthood is set to be performed at Nottingham's Lace Market Theatre next week - and we have TWO pairs of tickets to give away to the show on Wednesday. Agnes of God, which was written by the American playwright John Pielmeier, is the latest production by the Mansfield-based Zodiac Theatre Company. Based on a real-life incident, it tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the dead child was the result of a virgin conception. A psychiatrist is called in to investigate the incident and her faith in science and facts results in a huge clash with the mother superior of the convent who chooses to put her faith in God and the unknown. The play's director Simon Ward said: "Agnes of God perfectly shows how many extremist views boil down to the smallest of incidents and through exploring one dramatic event the ongoing debate about whether we should put our faith in science or religion is explored. Whichever one you choose to put your faith in, one way or another they encourage us to ask questions of ourselves and the world around us, and that can only be a good thing." The play first opened on Broadway on 30th March 1982 at the Music Box Theatre - and actress Amanda Plummer later won a Tony award for her performance. The London production starred Susannah York and Honor Blackman. The play was then adapted for a film in 1985, starring Jane Fonda, Anne Bancroft and Meg Tilly. Agnes of God marks the first time Zodiac Theatre Company have performed in Nottingham. With many productions under their belt and a strong reputation for being hard hitting, their presentation of Agnes of God promises to be an exciting piece of theatre. The cast includes Anna Sanderson who plays the psychiatrist Martha Livingston, Kate Ward as Mother Miriam Ruth and Lindsay Foster as novice nun Sister Agnes. There will be a public performance on Thursday 7th August at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £11 (£9 Concessions).
