Cornerhouse veg provides 'soup-erb' harvest

Harvest festivities are underway at The Cornerhouse as its vegetable patch is picked, with fresh produce being donated to local support centre, Emmanuel House. The centre management staff at Nottingham’s premier leisure and entertainment complex have been out in force, maintaining the venue’s vegetable patch and beehives, located on the top floor of the iconic drum. With autumn now in full swing, the team have harvested and delivered the first batch of vegetables to Emmanuel House, which will be used to make soup and other meals for the homeless and vulnerable clients it supports. Suzanne Green, centre manager at The Cornerhouse comments: “We’re very happy to be supporting such a charitable local cause in Emmanuel House, the team do a tremendous job in supporting some of Nottingham’s most vulnerable people and we will continue to support them with produce whenever we can. So far, we have delivered the first batch of red cabbage and celery and look forward to the rest of the crop being ready for harvest!” Kimberley Winter, marketing and communications officer at Emmanuel House adds: “With limited resources and serving an average of 90 homeless and vulnerable adults daily, fresh produce is incredibly important to Emmanuel House. As we are getting busier than ever, every donation is valuable. The donated vegetables make a big difference to our chef being able to prepare fresh and healthy meals for our service users and we are grateful for the support of The Cornerhouse this harvest.” The Cornerhouse has also sold its own award winning homemade honey, made fresh by the venue’s bees and have raised almost £600 in aid of their charity Mencap.
