Exploring The Cornerhouse

Today we hear from Nottingham bloggers ItsMuchMore, as they write about a recent visit to Nottingham's leading entertainment complex, The Cornerhouse.  The Cornerhouse first opened its doors in 2002 and has since become the focal point of Nottingham’s entertainment scene. With 20 venues contained within the complex, a variety of different experiences await. Whether you’re a film buff drawn to the IMAX at Cineworld, a foodie looking for Caribbean cuisine at Turtle Bay or the food extravaganza that is Red Hot World Buffet, anyone will be able to find their fit. Local bloggers, ItsMuchMore were invited to experience three of The Cornerhouse’s attractions; Lost City Adventure Golf, Indian canteen Tamatanga and Just The Tonic comedy club. First up was Tamatanga, which can be found on the Trinity Square side of The Cornerhouse. Going for a stylish low light ambiance and simple décor, we were welcomed with an exceptional greeting from their highly professional and passionate team. The food was of fantastic quality, taken from an authentic urban Indian menu. Few across Nottingham could match the expertly prepared food, which was of excellent quality and great taste. If Indian food is your thing, then I would highly recommend a visit to Tamatanga. Next stop was Just The Tonic, located within the nightclub, The Forum. Opened in 2010, this venue has driven the regular rolling comic scene that, in recent years, has boomed in Nottingham. The layout of the venue is one that resembles ‘cabaret’ style, with tables on the floor and rows of seating towards the back. It certainly has a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere, one that is enhanced by the performers often leaving the stage to mingle with their crowd. Some may say that the brand of humour found is on the safe side of offensive, but that didn’t stop me roaring in laughter. A pleasant mixture of all ages within the audience, tells you Just The Tonic has something for all. Finally, we headed into the depths of The Cornerhouse to Lost City Adventure Golf. This venue has already clocked up a number of successful awards and has since become a staple in the Nottingham City experience. Rightly so too, it was an absolute blast. The premise of this golf course may sound a bit wacky; a Central American themed indoor golf course, but the experience is brimming with character and charm. The entrance is adorned with two tall pillars that set the scene early as you pass through an extended tunnel, taking your mind on a journey to the Americas by being fully immersed in the sound of exotic birds echoing, with a tropical forest below you. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we were given the tools for our adventure swiftly (i.e. a putter and brightly coloured golf balls). There are two courses to choose from, each with their own unique path; therefore, a return visit is definitely needed. We found our co-adventurers to be great mix of ages, with teenagers, students, families and couples of all ages visibly having fun. Lost City Adventure Golf evidently has huge cross-market appeal, which is probably why it has become such a popular attraction for Nottingham. Of course, it may also be the ability to play a game of golf and then head over to their licensed bar for refreshments. I would certainly recommend all three of these venues to anyone looking for something to do. With the presence of somewhere like The Cornerhouse in Nottingham, it’s not hard to see why the city continues to be such a hot tourist destination.
