The sun's finally out, and with summer holiday season almost upon us, what better time to take a look at what makes us tick here in Nottinghamshire? New research has shown that people across the UK like to holiday in different ways - so let's find out what it is that sets us apart here in Notts.

In Notts we love the beach!

It's no secret that we're pretty landlocked here in Notts - we are located slap bang in the centre of the country after all. So maybe that's why the research revealed we're such big fans of a little sun, sand and sea. 60% of us prefer to spend our holiday time on the beach, which is a higher percentage than anywhere else in the country. With this in mind, it's no surprise the Nottingham Beach, which takes over Old Market Square every summer, is so popular! Just because we're not near the coast doesn't mean we're going to miss out on any of the fun, and for the eighth consecutive year, we'll be making our own beach in the heart of the city.

Literary leanings

It also might not come as too much of a surprise that here in Notts we like to read. Nottingham was recently named a UNESCO City of Literature, and with writers including Lord Byron, Alan Sillitoe, and D.H. Lawrence all having firm connections with the county, the written word is in our blood. The research puts Notts holidaymakers up there with the country's biggest bookworms, and on average we spend two hours a day reading when we go on holiday. If you get the urge to read up while you're in Nottinghamshire, then Bromley House Library is a magical place to stop in and browse the shelves of dusty books. Teabag tantrums

It's a guilty secret that a third of us stash teabags in our suitcases when travelling abroad. But should we really be ashamed of that stat? It's pretty clear that we know how to make a good cuppa in Notts, and whether it's sipping a delicious cappuccino, freshly roasted by 200 Degrees (which has just opened its second cafe in the city), or enjoying delicious cake and a cup of tea at charming cafes.

Soaking up some sun

We also love the sun here in Nottinghamshire - even if it has been in hiding recently. The research shows that we're always keen to top up our vitamin D levels, and we never miss a chance to get outdoors.
