Nottingham coffee lovers have been rejoicing following the opening of the second 200 Degrees café in the city centre – an outlet for fresh brews and amazing food from Nottingham’s premier coffee roasters, 200 Degrees coffee. The roaster’s first café on the edge of Old Market Square in the Flying Horse Walk arcade is already hugely popular with locals and visitors alike, thanks to its delicious coffee and drinks, freshly prepared food and chilled-out atmosphere. Not only this, it’s home to Nottingham’s very own barista school, where you can learn everything from how to make the perfect cup of coffee at home, to how to perfect your latte art if you’re looking to take your coffee-making skills to the next level. The new 200 Degrees café is located on Carrington St, just a short hop and skip from Nottingham train station, ideal for visitors to the city travelling by train and in need of refreshment. Overlooking the canal and featuring quirky features such as a stained glass window and stylish light fittings, it’s a welcoming and pleasing space, ideal for lingering over a coffee or meeting for a tasty breakfast or lunch. 20160629_122415My friend and I recently visited on our lunch break to try out the new 200 Degrees, and we were very excited given we’re both already firm fans of the original 200 Degrees café. The new site fully lived up to our expectations – the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food selection was equal to what we’ve come to love about this café – a mix of fresh and healthy savoury sandwiches, quiches and light meals, plus amazing cakes and slices. They also make a point of having options for people with dietary requirements such as gluten-free or vegetarian. I went for a croissant filled with goats cheese, roasted peppers and spinach – served warm, it was super delicious. The croissant was light and flakey, complimenting perfectly the tasty filling and perfectly matched flavours. My friend chose a multigrain baguette with a delicious fresh salad filling including shredded carrot, fennel, goats cheese and olive tapenade. There were plenty of options to choose from, including around eight other types of fresh sandwiches, rolls and focaccias, salads and pastries.20160629_122358 I went for a decaf cappuccino, which was beautifully mellow without a hint of bitterness, just as I’ve come to expect from these coffee masters. My friend tried the cold brew coffee, which is a slow brew using cold water, which is then stored in a keg, infused with nitrogen and served on tap. It was very refreshing, and is the ideal cold drink for coffee-lovers on a warm day. Even if you don’t like coffee, 200 Degrees is still a must visit café, with a range of cold soft drinks on offer, specialty teas and hot chocolate. Next time you’re near Nottingham train station, pop by and try it for yourself. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome and delicious food and drink. The ideal stop off before exploring Nottingham.
