New Admissions Policy at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire

Clumber Park is a special and important place, which is why it’s one of only a handful of Grade I registered parks in the country and is enjoyed by so many. It is changing the way it admits visitors to the Park and is doing so by removing the pay barrier around the Walled Kitchen Garden so that everyone who visits Clumber Park can enjoy it, and by modifying its admissions model from pay-per-car to pay-per-head. The change will come into effect on 4 January 2017. This change marks the start of a £8.5m programme of revitalisation of Clumber Park that will include restoring areas of heathland and important habitats for wildlife which have been badly damaged by cars and erosion, bringing the historic Walled Kitchen Garden and Pleasure Grounds to life, opening up views that have been lost, protecting ancient trees and investing in and improving visitor facilities. Clumber Park is a 3,800 acre Grade I registered parkland. 30 per cent of the estate is classed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the range of habitat (lowland heath, veteran trees, acid grassland and lake) and the wildlife species which it supports. Over the last 40 years, visitor numbers have grown significantly year on year with up to 15,000 people visiting the estate on peak days. This has taken its toll across the property, to the extent that the National Trust must take action to reduce the impact on the property’s natural environment and infrastructure, which is becoming increasingly damaged. The National Trust is an independent charity. Membership is the most cost effective way of supporting and visiting National Trust places regularly and gives access to many other beautiful and historic places on your doorstep.
