With just one week to go until voting for VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar closes at 5pm on Wednesday 29 March, the landlord of Nottingham’s Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem – Karl Gibson – is appealing for local help to get him to number one in the country! Karl is flying the flag for Nottinghamshire by becoming one of just ten finalists in the country to be shortlisted for a national VisitEngland Tourism Superstar Award.  He goes above and beyond the call of his landlord duties to ensure visitors receive an extra special experience and, as well as providing a warm and friendly Nottinghamshire welcome, he is a fountain of knowledge, not just about the pub but all that Nottingham has to offer too. Karl was nominated for the award by Visit Nottinghamshire.  The organisation is delighted Karl is one of the national finalists but is urging the folk of Nottinghamshire to back the campaign on the Daily Mirror website to ‘Vote for Karl’. Brendan Moffett, Chief Executive of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, said: “Karl entertains and informs visitors about the history of the world-famous pub, taking them on tours of the cellars and enlightening them with the many tales of the building’s rich history. “Karl contributes to the wider visitor experience by helping visitors to have a memorable stay, which helps us to raise the profile of the city and county as a visitor destination and has a positive impact on the wider visitor economy.” Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem dates back to 1189, whilst the cellars, which are set in the caves of the adjacent Nottingham Castle - where the beer was once brewed - date back to 1070.  Karl takes visitors on tours of the cellars, free of charge, enthralling them with tales of the medieval brewing techniques and the gory past of the condemned cell where criminals deemed too bad to hang were chained to the wall and often left to die. The winning Tourism Superstar will be announced during English Tourism Week (25 March-2 April).
