Visit Nottinghamshire, part of Marketing NG, is encouraging businesses across the county to take advantage of the immense opportunity presented by the OVO Energy Tour of Britain, when it rolls into Nottinghamshire on 6 September 2017. Experts are predicting an economic boost of around £500,000 for Nottinghamshire, based on the impact seen in other locations when hosting the start or finish elements of the race in previous years. Nottinghamshire will host stage four of the race, starting in Mansfield and finishing in Newark, and taking in 175km of the county’s roads. The race has a worldwide TV audience of millions, and is expected to attract 1.6 million spectators over the eight-days it takes place across the country. This is the first time Nottinghamshire has hosted an entire stage of the race, which historically provides a significant economic boost in the locations it tours. “The Tour of Britain presents a great opportunity for local businesses, and we’re keen to work with businesses to help them maximise the impact it has. There are a range of opportunities to get involved, from window dressing in shops, to special offers for visitors, to race sponsorship packages, meaning everyone has the chance to benefit from this exciting event,” said Brendan Moffett, Chief Executive of Visit Nottinghamshire. “There is still an opportunity for a local business to be a headline sponsor for stage four of the race, giving unprecedented exposure via the 1 million people expected to watch stage four race coverage in the UK, and the 200,000 spectators we’re expecting to line the route in Nottinghamshire.” Not only will the race provide immediate benefits for business, it will also help raise the profile of Nottinghamshire and its impressive visitor attractions, putting the county in the spotlight to a global audience. “It’s a real coup for Nottinghamshire to have a start and finish, and the route is set to showcase some of the most iconic scenery in the county, passing by major attractions such as Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Newstead Abbey, Rufford Abbey and Southwell Minster,” said Moffett. Nottinghamshire is a county with a passion for cycling, with an already established calendar of cycling events such as Cycle Live, which takes place this weekend (25 June), and many cycling attractions such as Sherwood Pines and Clumber Park. Nottinghamshire County Council, Mansfield District Council, Newark & Sherwood District Council, Ashfield District Council, Broxtowe District Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Gedling District Council and Nottingham City Councilhave made a significant investment in bringing the race to Nottinghamshire, and now is the time for local businesses to take advantage of this opportunity. “We look forward to working with businesses and stakeholders to make the most of this, the biggest free-to-attend sporting event ever to come to Nottinghamshire,” said Moffett.
