Looking for an afternoon out with the kids which the whole family can genuinely enjoy? It’s not often we go somewhere for kids craft which also ticks all the boxes of my ideal afternoon out, but a crafternoon tea for kids at Debbie Bryan was a real treat for all of us. Set in the heart of the Lace Market in Nottingham, Debbie Bryan is a shop, studio, tea room and all round creative space, with an amazing array of events and hands-on workshops throughout the year. We visited in the summer to try out a new range of craft activities for children, taking my two boys aged three and one to see what they thought. The tea room is a beautiful space, and both boys couldn’t wait to explore it. Luckily a high chair was provided, so I could keep the little one contained as he was determined to try and eat some of the creative displays!

We were given the chance to choose from a variety of craft activities, and my 3-year-old went for the make your own dinosaur mask option. Other craft activities include creating creatures from pine cones and decorating your own antique plate, plus plenty more. We were provided with all the equipment needed to be creative – colourful papers for sticking, scissors for cutting, various colouring pens and pencils. He really enjoyed cutting up all the paper, but in the end just chose to use colours to decorate his dinosaur. It was great to see his joy in the finished product, and while he was busy cutting and colouring, I could enjoy a delicious pot of tea and some of the wonderful cakes on offer. We went for a perfectly squidgy brownie and a slice of lemon and courgette cake to share between us. Both were very tasty and a real treat. There is a playful Kid’s Menu on offer if you’re looking for a more substantial meal, including ‘cheeky cheddar’ and ‘happy ham’ sandwiches, a small person’s picnic lunchbox, or even an afternoon tea aimed at ‘young ladies & gents’. Grown-ups can also enjoy a full afternoon tea with all the works if you’re feeling hungry – everything looks delicious, and I’d highly recommend Debbie Bryan as an afternoon out for the whole family. The craft is available daily.
