The National Holocaust Museum is so much more than a museum. It is a vibrant memorial, a place of testimony, and a centre of education for communities from all backgrounds, all faiths, and all walks of life.

Located in a former farmhouse in the village of Laxton, on the edge of Sherwood Forest in North Nottinghamshire, the Museum is the first and only permanent place of its kind in the UK, solely dedicated to Holocaust remembrance and education.

The peaceful rural setting is home to two powerful permanent exhibitions:

‘The Holocaust’ Exhibition: This exhibition explores Jewish life before, during, and after the Holocaust, alongside the rise of Nazism and the century-old ideologies behind anti-Jewish racism. The exhibition reminds visitors that knowing what happened in the Holocaust is the first necessary step to understanding it.

‘The Journey’ exhibition: the UK’s only Holocaust exhibition appropriate for primary school aged children. Learn about the children who survived the Holocaust as refugees, through a walk-through interactive story. Featuring over 300 objects and 100 clips of survivor testimony woven throughout.

Outside, the Memorial Gardens offer a unique space for reflection, healing, and remembrance. Over 1,000 white roses bloom here, each one dedicated to a loved one lost. The Children’s Memorial, built stone by stone by visitors, honours the 1.5 million children murdered in the Holocaust. Visitors are invited to place a stone in remembrance, creating a deeply personal act of commemoration.

What makes a visit particularly unique is the opportunity to meet a survivor of the Holocaust and hear their story. The Museum is privileged to have a close-knit family of Holocaust survivors who visit regularly* to share their testimony with the public. They have made the National Holocaust Museum what it is today, by their strength and commitment.
