Ye Olde England Tours have pioneered Private Walking Tours since 2012 and we have two great options to explore, enjoy and learn about Nottingham.
Nottingham Private Walking Tour
There are so many good reasons to visit Nottingham either on a day trip from London by train or as part of a longer stay around the Midlands. Our private walking tour will show you all the best bits of this incredibly historic, friendly and vibrant city. We will meet you at either Nottingham Railway Station or your hotel in Nottingham City Centre.
Of course Nottingham has a rich history with its Lacemaking and in the Industrial Revolution, even it’s football. Nottingham is home to the largest public square outside of London.
But of course there is one man who epitomises Nottingham above all else and we will follow hot on his tails to various points in the City of Rebels that are pivotal to the adventures of Robin Hood.
If you come to see Robin Hood then of course you have to visit Nottingham Castle, home of Robins nemesis, the Sheriff of Nottingham.
It’s a lot quieter here now than 900 years ago and given a bit of luck we normally get to have a good look around inside the castle without too many sword fights or encountering Sir Guy of Gisburne but perhaps I should offer that as an optional extra!
If there isn’t above ground for you then wait until you see what’s beneath your feet. One of the most amazing things about Nottingham is that it sits upon what is known as the City of Caves. There are almost 1,000 known caves and passageways beneath the city with more being discovered every year. In our tour we will descend underground and explore the highlights. You can even see how some served as air-raid shelters during WW2.
We will also explore the old Lace Market and uncover the secrets of this famous part of Nottinghams heritage. Learn about some of the less palatable parts of the history of Nottingham, where many of the executions took place. After all that you might be ready for a drink or a meal before heading back and so why not stop for a drink at one of the pubs with the best claim to being the oldest pub in Britain. Frequented by crusaders heading south and partially built into the rock beneath Nottingham Castle.
Our fabulous private walking tour includes the entry into the City of Caves, Nottingham Castle and a drink in Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.
Afterwards it is just a short walk back to the City Centre or Nottingham Railway Station.
Nottingham Private Historical Pub Tour
Our Nottingham Historic Pub Tour doesn’t just visit five of the finest pubs. It also makes for a great way to explore the historic city as we weave around the streets and lanes from one pub to the next..
Every pub that we visit is authentic and historic, each with a great history, a fantastic atmosphere and great drinks. A free drink is included in each of the pubs that we visit.
For those staying in Nottingham City Centre, I can meet you at your hotel. Alternatively at Nottingham Railway Station which has direct trains to London and several other cities.
Some of the pubs you just won’t find anything similar anywhere in the world. One has a canal going through it. Another is a possibility for the oldest pub in Britain with caves as rooms under Nottingham Castle. There is a pub that was a refectory for an old monastery. As monasteries were abolished by King Henry ViII you can imagine that is pretty old too.
Along the way we will see the sights. Enjoy from the distance of a few centuries the odd murder and execution. Of course there will be a spot of Robin Hood and lots more besides!
Accessibility information
All our tours are private and so we can go at our own speed. They are not long walks and can be personalised along the way. We welcome people with mobility issues or those with special needs.
Please note the Caves and one of the pubs we visit are not wheelchair accessible however for the pub tour we would find an alternative historic pub.
