Did you know that Nottingham has an Olympic legacy with ice-skating? It has been 40 years since Nottingham based figure skaters Torvill and Dean swept to victory at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics! So this Christmas you are invited to take to the ice in the home of Olympic legends, where you will be able to pirouette like a professional or enjoy a fun-filled afternoon skating with friends or family.
The centrepiece of any winter season in Nottinghamshire is The National Ice Centre. Enjoy a magical skating experience in the indoor venue underneath twinkling lights, seasonal decorations and a majestic Christmas tree!
A nervous skater? Not to worry - they have friendly staff who can give you tips and tricks when navigating the ice and a whole host of fun ice equipment to help you balance and move around. Equipment is free in the tots zone or available for hire at £5 per item. You can also enjoy discounted rates with a family ticket, an Active Nottingham City Card, as a Student and as a Senior aged 60+. For full skating times and prices please visit the venue website.
The National Ice Centre is located in Nottingham City Centre just off Bolero Square near Hockley and Lace Market. You can easily visit by car, bus, tram and train. You can also walk there from anywhere in Nottingham City Centre.
The centrepiece of Winter Wonderland, skaters will not only get access to the Ice Rink but also the Sky Skate Ice Path, giving you a truly unique skating experience.
Grab some skates and experience Old Market Square from above. Take in the scenic city views and enjoy a heavenly hot chocolate or mulled wine at the skate-up bar. For those less keen on heights, a ground-level family ice rink is available, along with a new children’s ice rink complete with penguin skate aids, allowing even the littlest skaters to enjoy this classic winter tradition at their own pace.
Further details will be announced shortly so please check back soon to find out more.
