Bennerley Viaduct, an icon of the industrial revolution, is now welcoming visitors exploring nature, and the great outdoors. As part of this new lease of life, the Friends of Bennerley Viaduct are hosting a Cycling and Wellbeing Day.
Activities are all free of charge:
-Borrow a bike or bring your own
-Test your skills on the slalom skills course
-Ride Wise!
-Make your own smoothie on the Smoothie Bike
-Dr. Bike repair shop! Fix your bike!
-Meet great wellbeing, cycling, and community groups to play their games and hear about their work!
-Explore the woodland trail treasure hunt
-Explore the viaduct site
The event is taking place underneath Bennerley Viaduct, close to the River Erewash. Find the site via postcode NG16 2YH
Walk to the event site over the railway footbridge near Bennerley Woods, off Erewash Canal or from Cotmanhay/ Ilkeston cross the Erewash canal through the woodland track, cross the railway footbridge and follow the path to beneath the viaduct. If you are coming from Awsworth side, either follow the woodland track underneath the viaduct, use the footpath along Awsworth Road, or cycle/ walk along the truck roads land beside the viaduct.
No parking onsite and no vehicle access. Please come on foot, bike, or via public transport where possible. Parking is available nearby in Ilkeston and on street in Cotmanhay, especially Ilkeston Station and in the streets around the Erewash Canal. There are limited spaces at Newton's Lane car park.
Access Information:
The event area is flat, but the walk to it is moderately challenging, with some uneven pathways and some stairs over the footbridge.
Portaloo toilets and ice cream cart for refreshments to purchase onsite.
