Saturday 8 September 2018 | 9am - 4pm Tower & Treasury tours at 10.30am & 1.15pm
St Mary Magdalene Church
Free Event
Visitors to the church can enjoy the view of the town from the 5th highest spire in the UK or see the collection of plate and vessels in the Treasury. There will also be Music for Market from 12.30pm - 1.15pm.
The oldest parts of the church date to the 12th century. The lower stage of the tower dates from c.1220 and the south aisle and spire were added in the early fourteenth century. Much of the rest of the church dates to the 14th and 15th centuries. You can see a Medieval 'Dance of Death' painting, monumental brasses, evidence of damage caused during the Civil Wars and other monuments. There will be tours of the spire, with spectacular views across Newark and also the Treasury, housed in the oldest part of the church, where you can see spectacular items of the church plate, including a chalice used by Charles I.
From 12.30pm - 1.15pm there will be a concert of Music for Market.
