Sunday 8th & 12th December | 2024 | 6pm - 7pm
Peggy's Skylight | Nottingham
Tickets: £6 - £10
Peggy's Skylight welcomes emerging musicians to the stage for their new monthly Spotlight event, bringing vibrant talent and fresh sounds to Nottingham’s music scene. For this December event, audiences will enjoy a dynamic night featuring Afrodesia, an Afro-Jazz fusion band with a rhythmic energy that inspires movement, alongside Magnus Hawker-French Trio, showcasing Nottingham talent with an innovative blend of originals and jazz standards.
Afrodesia
The Leeds-based Afro-Jazz fusion band Afrodesia has become a staple across UK dance floors, igniting venues with fast-paced rhythms, vibrant melodies, and exhilarating improvisation. Afrodesia draws deeply from African musical influences—Afrobeat, Highlife, Juju, Kwela, Kwasa kwasa—and merges them with jazz, capturing the essence of Africa’s musical heritage. Inspired by iconic African musicians like Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela, and Ebo Taylor, Afrodesia delivers a groove that brings raw energy to the dance floor, inviting audiences to feel the rhythm and move to the beat.
Magnus Hawker-French Trio
Nottingham’s own Magnus Hawker-French stands out as one of the UK jazz scene’s brightest young talents. Hailed as “the future of jazz trombone” by UK jazz legend Dennis Rollins, Magnus is quickly making his mark, with career highlights including recording with Chaka Khan, playing for royalty, and performing regularly across the country.
For this event, Magnus teams up with East Midlands jazz talents Lucas Walters on piano and Oli Fitzgerald on bass to form the Magnus Hawker-French Trio. Together, they present an engaging setlist of fresh arrangements of jazz classics and original compositions, offering an exciting musical experience that showcases the best of Nottingham's jazz artistry.
