Healing and renewal are themes that resonate with the Villiers Quartet’s closing concert. In the historical surroundings of St Mary’s in the Lace Market, they perform the live concert premiere of Solicitudo by East Midlands composer Philip Herbert, who wrote this work for the VQ in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The concert ends with Beethoven’s late Quartet Op. 132 in A minor, Beethoven’s own offering of thanksgiving after he survived an intensely personal illness.
