Mariana Meneses explores the legacy and influence of the Bauhaus in Great Britain, particularly in popular youth culture and the work of Vidal Sassoon.
The impact and influence of the Bauhaus school in the UK is expressed in various artistic forms. Meneses will explore the impact on Vidal Sassoon's practice and hairstyling, as well as on the teaching and training at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. The hairstylist was influenced by Bauhaus theoretical texts which informed his pioneering style of geometrical hair cutting technique. Additionally, Bauhaus artist and theorist Johannes Itten and his colour theory were instrumental for hairstyling and fashion trends during the fifties and sixties in London.
Gallery seating and hearing loops available.
In conjunction with Nottingham Contemporary's current exhibition Still Undead: Popular Culture in Britain Beyond the Bauhaus
