Nine cyclists cycling!

Nottingham has long been associated with the world-famous Raleigh bicycle factory which exported bikes all over the world. The factory, which was in the suburb of Radford, formed the basis of Nottingham author Alan Sillitoe's 1958 novel Saturday Night and Sunday Morning which tells the story of the rebellious young man Arthur Seaton who spends his day working at the lathe in the Raleigh factory.

You can find out about the history of the Raleigh factory at Nottingham Industrial Museum, which is set in the picturesque grounds of Wollaton Park. The exhibition charts the history of the company, which was set up by Frank Bowden in the 1880s, and has an excellent collection of classic bikes. In addition, the museum covers Nottingham's other major industries including textiles, mining, railways, communications and Boots.

Discover more about another of Nottingham's literary heroes D.H. Lawrence at the D. H. Lawrence Heritage Centre and Birthplace Museum in his home town of Eastwood. Here you will see what life was like for mining families in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the run-up to Christmas there will be a series of Victorian Christmas Tradition Tours with an opportunity to see how the Victorians established many of the festive customs we know today.

If you are planning to explore D. H. Lawrence country, why not book an overnight stay at the Nottingham Belfry? Located just six miles away, and close to Junction 26 of the M1, the hotel has 120 rooms to choose from, as well as an indoor heated pool, gymnasium and luxury spa where you can unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
