Behind the Red Door outsideIn a beautiful Victorian building at Weekday Cross, opposite Nottingham Contemporary, you’ll find Behind the Red Door, a veritable treasure trove of gifts and the ideal place for Christmas shopping. Today marks the first birthday of this boutique retailer, which was established by owner Karen as an extension of her existing business The Art File, which creates beautifully designed greeting cards, stationery and gift wrap.   Behind the Red Door With a focus on bespoke and handmade products, the shop sources gifts from all over the world, including France, Italy, the US and Australia, as well as stocking products by Nottinghamshire makers such as Baska Designs. Karen says Behind the Red Door aims to offer a range of gifts to suit all tastes and budgets, offering something different for shoppers looking for a memorable gift. “We try to stock makers and labels which aren’t available anywhere else in Nottingham, as we want our visitors to find something special when they come here,” she said. Behind the Red DoorFrom creative cards and wrapping paper, to jewellery, handbags, scarves, homewares, watches and stylish toiletries, Behind the Red Door offers a huge range of items, and is ideal for browsing when looking for gift inspiration. Karen says her favourite products are the Tokyo Milk and Tokyo Milk Dark toiletries they stock, which feature unisex scents, luxurious bathing products and gorgeous packaging. Store manager Lucy says her favourite product is the jam-jar tankards they sell, which are ideal as a stocking filler gift at just £5 each.IMG_6700 When asked about their most popular product, Lucy pointed out the cocktail glasses they sell, which come beautifully boxed and feature vintage-inspired shapes and colours. Behind the Red Door will be holding a Christmas shopping evening on the 10th December from 5pm till 8pm, with 10% off everything. They will be open till 6pm on all Wednesdays from the 3rd of December till 17th December. Usual opening hours, 10am – 5pm, Tuesday – Saturday.
