Newstead Abbey is holding a Volunteers Drop-in Day on Saturday 21 February from 11am to 3pm to recruit volunteers to help out at the beautiful historic house and park.   Newstead AbbeyThe event is a chance for people to drop in throughout the day and learn about volunteering opportunities. Museum staff and volunteers will be on hand to show people around the site and answer any questions. There are a range of volunteer roles to choose from, in the Abbey itself as well as in the gardens.  Volunteers are always needed for the family events to support educational activities and tours.  Training and support is provided to volunteers and it can be a good way of gaining experience, building confidence and meeting people with similar interests. Councillor Cat Arnold, Executive Assistant for Joint Service Centres, said: "Within Nottingham City Museums and Galleries volunteers are vital and have an important role in keeping our heritage alive. Volunteers help us keep the site open and looking beautiful for visitors and future generations.  Our Open Days give anyone interested the chance to find out what is involved in volunteering and how they can use their skills and abilities to make a real difference and contribution.” Newstead Abbey, home to the notorious poet, Lord Byron is set in a glorious landscape of over 38 acres of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire.  The house, which opens on Saturday and Sunday each week, last year attracted 74,875 visitors with events including outdoor theatre, concerts, and recently participated in the 16th annual Lord Byron festival.  The stunning grounds are open all year round.
