Nottingham Puppet Festival

You might just get your socks knocked off when you check out the packed programme of this fantastic event. Over four days marionettes, puppets and all sorts of magical creatures will be awoken from slumber to take over the city, with performances, parades, workshops, talks, film screenings and lots more happening at numerous venues. In the Old Market Square there’s lots to get involved in at the Pop-up Puppet Village; meet the mighty Iron Man – who is the size of a double decker bus, be wowed at world renowned magicians, and on the Sunday watch the Puppet Parade march into Old Market Square.

Exhibition Launch: The House of Fame

We love a good exhibition launch at Nottingham Contemporary, and this latest event – part of The Grand Tour Season Three – looks to be superbly spectacular! British artist Linder Sterling has more than 40 years of photomontage, graphics, costume and performance art, stemming from her roots in the Manchester punk and post-punk scenes in the 1970s, to her recent residency at Chatsworth. Check out her work, alongside 30 other artists, then head down to the bar for live music from The Death of Rave and other performers. A night to intrigue and inspire, this is a free event but make sure to book tickets!

The Woolly Tellers - Fen Giants, Gobbits and Marsh Horrors

The Woolly Tellers don’t need the fancy bells and whistles of most entertainment. Armed with a cannon of fascinating tales and the knack for telling them, their storytelling evenings captivate audiences into a hush using the greatest of all techniques - pure imagination. Do you believe in fairies? At their latest offering, Mick and Dave call up some of those superstitions that haunt childhood and folklore, bringing stories of Fen Giants, Gobbits and Marsh Horrors to the beautiful venue of The Malt Cross.

The Party Somewhere Else Festival

A little touch of Edinburgh Fringe comes to Nottingham Playhouse this weekend as local collective The Party Somewhere Else present their first theatre festival. Over six days you can check out a dozen or so performances, ranging from the bittersweet and poignant, to hilarious and raunchy. With workshops and talks too, you can get involved if you feel so inspired at Saturday’s Open House, or check out those perfecting their art on Wednesday’s Scratch Night.
