There are few things more romantic than taking a walk with a special someone, so make sure you explore the countryside around Creswell Crags. These ancient caves were once a magnet for starry-eyed Victorian ladies who believed that if they threw their hatpins into one of the pools they would marry the first man they saw afterwards. Starting at the visitor centre you can choose one of several walking trails which take you through this enchanting area. While there you can marvel at some of the only known Ice Age art in Britain! Stay nearby at one of the area’s lovely B&Bs and hotels, such as the award-winning Brown’s B&B or the gorgeous Ye Olde Bell hotel.
Escape from it all in a Sherwood Forest luxury cabin, nestled in the heart of Robin Hood country in Nottinghamshire. Do as much or as little as you like – snuggle in the hot tub, get toasty by the wood burning fire, or walk hand in hand through ancient woodland.
For a more active retreat, explore the woodland by bicycle or on foot, or try your hand at archery. Relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, and watch the forest evolve from day to night.
The Golden Oak Hideaway cabins at Forest Holidays are exclusively for couples. These cosy cabins are complete with hot tub, wood burning stove, a double hammock, sunken bath and a panoramic view of the forest through your window.
Nearby, in the village of Edwinstowe, you can also visit St Mary’s Church which is where, according to legend, Robin Hood married Maid Marion.
Lord Byron was a prolific lover who penned many poems on the themes of love and loss. Wander the beautiful gardens of Byron's ancestral home Newstead Abbey and drop in to Colwick Hall Hotel. Book a stay at Gardener's Cottage just a stone throw away from Newstead Abbey to create your own literary inspired break. In the word’s of Byron himself: For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.
Further discover the romantic literary heritage of Nottinghamshire with a visit to D.H. Lawrence country. The landscape around Teversal is said to have inspired one of the most risqué love stories ever told: Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
Nottingham is the famed for its superb restaurants and wide range of hotels to suit all tastes and budgets. Hart's hotel and restaurant gives lovebirds the chance to spend time together in stylish surroundings, while St James Hotel, located close to Nottingham castle, boasts luxury bedrooms, including the penthouse where you can enjoy 24-hour in-room dining, a jacuzzi for two and even a baby grand piano - if you want to woo your loved one with music.
