Award-winning contemporary jazz trio from Bucharest blending Scandinavian atmospheres with Balkan rhythms. Cinematic, expressive and dynamic, Amphitrio delivers a modern sound shaped by strong interplay, improvisation, and international touring experience.

"Amphitrio's Scandi-jazz meets the Balkans set was a lovely Sunday opener. Expansive and cinematic, the Bucharest trio were an enjoyable and promising surprise." – John Watson, London Jazz News

Amphitrio is an award-winning contemporary jazz project based in Bucharest, Romania, initiated in 2023. The trio brings together pianist and composer Andrei Petrache, bassist Mike Alex, and percussionist Philip Goron—three musicians with strong backgrounds in both classical and alternative music scenes.

Their music creates a distinctive sonic identity, blending the atmospheric textures of Scandinavian jazz with the rhythmic richness and intensity of Balkan traditions. The result is a sound that is both cinematic and emotionally charged, balancing delicacy with power, structure with improvisation.

Since its inception, Amphitrio has quickly established itself as a rising presence on the European jazz scene. The band has performed at major festivals such as Jazz in the Park, Gărâna Jazz Festival, JazzX, and Baku Jazz Festival, and has toured internationally across 11 countries as part of the "What Freedom Sounds Like" tour in 2024. Their growing international activity continues with a USA tour scheduled for 2026, including performances in New York, Chicago, and Boston.

Their debut album Timelines received critical acclaim and earned the Annual Music Prize from Romanian Cultural Radio, alongside the Excellence Prize (Jazz Group Category) awarded by UCIMR. The trio was also recognized with "The Best Composition Award" at the Jazz in the Park Competition.

Andrei Petrache – Piano
