"…An excellent improvising musician, very naturally gifted and performs with an excitement and intensity few musicians posses. He has a tremendous potential as a jazz musician and composer…" – Dr Tommy Smith
Andrew is a saxophonist, composer and producer based in the UK and Europe. He studied music as an undergraduate at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, where he studied under Tommy Smith and Julian Arguelles. He also has a masters in Jazz performance and Modern music from Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, Spain where he studied with American saxophonist Bill McHenry. He plays tenor and soprano saxophones.
The music he writes is continually evolving. It embraces straight ahead, modern styles and free improvisation. He searches for visceral musicality and a subconscious level of ensemble interaction. He has performed with world renowned artists including Bill Evans, Randy Brecker, Snarky Puppy, Lee-Scratch Perry, Roots Manuva, Michael League & many more.
Baker presents his music accompanied by some of the finest and most exciting musicians on the UK jazz scene.
