All materials will be provided and the workshop includes a two-course homemade lunch served with local wine. At the end of the two days you will have created your own bentwood chair to take home with you. Alternatively, we can arrange to deliver your chair locally if transport is a problem.
Day 1
- 10am: Welcome and summary of the two days ahead. Introduction to tools and tool safety. Select coppiced hazel to construct chair. Demonstration of bending coppiced hazel rods.
- Midday: Break for two-course home-made lunch with glass of local wine.
- 1pm: Begin creating arms and back of chair.
- 2.30pm: Break for tea and cake.
- 3pm: Continue with chair arms and back.
- 4pm: End for the day.
Day 2
- 10am: Review of previous day's progress. Overview of the day's objectives. Continue working on the chair back.
- Midday: Break for two-course home-made lunch with glass of local wine.
- 1pm: Add chair legs.
- 2.30pm: Break for tea and cake.
- 3pm: Cut and fix all coppiced hazel rods.
- 3.45pm: Time to relax in your new chair before heading home.
- 4pm: End for the day.
Please note – due to the size and space required for this workshop, it will be held in the Wood Barn. you will be undercover but weather dependent it may be cold. We recommend you wear layers.
