About

Peggy's Skylight
Saturday 5 September 2026 | 6.45pm & 9.15pm
Tickets: £18

The literate, jazz-drenched compositions of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, aka Steely Dan, lovingly recast for acoustic jazz quintet. "Steely Jazz bring the songs to life in a jazz group context in a remarkable way." Uk Jazz News

"Lovely, subtle jazz interpretations, superbly realised" –  Jazz Journal

The singular songs of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, aka Steely Dan, have cryptic, pungent lyrics and sophisticated music deeply influenced by, in their own words, "the best jazz players of the '50s and '60s". Steely Jazz re-examines the Dan canon in a poignant, edifying and exciting show, featuring tracks from the Chris Ingham Quintet's acclaimed album Walter/Donald .

Famous classics ("Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Josie", "Reelin' in the Years") juxtapose deep cuts from the nine Steely Dan albums 1972-2003 in a fresh, exciting celebration of two giants of 20th Century popular music. In the words of Richard Williams, the doyen of British music critics, "Ingham pulls it off…Honestly, if you walked into a club and found yourself listening to this band playing this material, you'd be extremely happy…you'd be hearing wonderful songs carefully turned so as to catch the light from a different angle, in the process drawing out their humanity."
