After a hit job goes horribly wrong, a pair of mismatched Irish hitmen are sent to lie low in the wintry Belgian city of Bruges.
Before 2022's The Banshees of Inisherin, Oscar-winning writer-director Martin McDonagh first paired Banshees co-stars Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell (alongside Ralph Fiennes as a superbly sweary gangland boss) in this typically tragicomic tale of a couple of contract killers holed up in Belgium over the festive season. Set against a backdrop of fairy-lit canals and picture-postcard medieval plazas, McDonagh's pitch-black but surprisingly poignant crime comedy is a stone-cold Christmas cult classic.
