Win a Break for Two and Walk in the Footsteps of the Sheriff of Nottingham
Every story needs a villain, and where Robin Hood is the noble man who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, the Sheriff of Nottingham is just the villain every story needs. Did you know that to this day, Nottingham still has its very own Sheriff of Nottingham? The extravagant title is currently taken by Councillor Merlita Bryan.
This Christmas you and your partner or a friend will have the chance to win a weekend away for two! Explore Nottingham’s most fascinating sites, learn about the legend of Robin Hood and his rivalry with the sheriff of Nottingham, and live the lavish life a sheriff would have led. Enjoy two days of delicious food and drink, tickets to exciting attractions and a gorgeous place to rest your head.
You will be spending this weekend at the spectacular grounds of Eastwood Hall. The stunning hotel is located in the historic mining-town of Eastwood and provides a perfect atmosphere for a relaxing weekend away. The small town was once the home of one of the most famous writers of the 20th century, D.H. Lawrence. Explore the town and stop by the DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum where you’ll find out more about the famous writer and late Victorian times. Take a tour of his childhood home to see how he lived and find out what inspired his writing.
In the evening you’ll head back to Eastwood Hall for a delicious dinner at the Tempus Bar & Restaurant and indulge on their exquisite British cuisine. Wherever possible, the restaurant’s dishes are prepared with locally and ethically sourced produce.
The following day, venture into the city and visit the revamped Nottingham Castle. Enter the Castle doors and step into medieval Nottingham with interactive games, the atmospheric Rebellion Gallery and be fascinated by all its history. Not only will you get access to the Castle, you will also be able to experience the captivating storytelling of the Robin Hood Adventure and descend into the historic Castle caves.
Last but definitely not least, head to Nottingham’s historic Lace Market and get ready to explore the National Justice Museum. At the 800-year-old county gaol and courtroom you get to experience the, sometimes horrible, history of crime and punishment in Victorian England.
