The 2023 D.H. Lawrence Festival opens with a launch of a new exhibition, displaying the Eastwood debut of Lawrence's last known portrait.
Painted in 1929 by Joep Nicolas, while Lawrence was staying with Aldous Huxley in Surenes, France, it depicts him in the final year of his life, with evidence of his deteriorating health seen in the artwork.
(With thanks to V and A and the Heritage Lottery Fund for funding and Nottingham City Museums for the Portrait)
