5 sessions commencing Wednesday 15 April 2020 | 1pm - 3pm
Session Dates: Wednesday 15, 22 and 29 April, 6 and 13 May 2020
£145
Join Hanwell Wine Estate at this 5 week course and learn the secrets of old masters’ technique. Each session will take place in our cosy converted barn that offers inspiring views of the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside and surrounding vineyard. You will have time to relax and focus on your art as you build your knowledge and learn techniques. The course is designed for mixed abilities and by the end of the 5 weeks you will have completed your beautiful canvas.
What you will learn:
You will have the opportunity to develop and explore some of the techniques used by an Old Master: Rembrandt van Rijn (1609 – 1669). The painting will be done in 3 stages:
1 – Umber Underlayer
After the initial sketch with a pencil, the first stages are painted in thin washes using oils like watercolours. Each layer needs to dry properly before commencing on the next step.
2 – Dead Underlayer
In this stage the tonality is already chosen so the dead underlayer is prepared using white and black paints. Corrections can be made to the tonality without making radical changes.
3 – Colour layer
The final stage involves using transparent colours to show the tonal values used on all the other layers.
What is included:
All tools, materials and refreshments are included for you. Nothing to bring just yourself. We will also store your canvas between each session.
