Peggy's Skylight
Tickets: £20
Drawing on influences from Jimi Hendrix to Jeff Buckley, trip-hop and beyond, Jackson Mathod comes to Peggy's fresh from the release of his new album - Mirage. " Everything about the band screams of-the-moment innovation, of musicians imbued from the cradle with a hip-hop vibe" - Uk Jazz News
Jackson Mathod's first visit to Peggy's follows the release of his new album "Mirage" this autumn. A guitar-driven departure from his previous work, the album explores the age of information and illusion through a psychedelic lens, drawing on influences from Jimi Hendrix to Jeff Buckley, trip-hop and beyond. A new South London sound, written and recorded under a pub well known for its creative output. Personnel include producer/guitarist Leif Maine (Wu-Lu, Ego Ella May, LA Salami), bassist Daniele Gulino (Jamie Woon, Richard Spaven) and drummer Jaega McKenna-Gordon (Gorillaz, Morcheeba, Greentea Peng), with features from David Mrakpor (Blue Lab Beats), Gabriele Pribetti and Pub Singer.
After playing as a session musician with the likes of Stormzy, Jordan Rakei, Alex Isley and Julian Joseph, Jackson quickly made a name for himself as a soloist and composer, earning a residency at the renowned Ronnie Scott's. His previous work has garnered support from BBC6, 1Xtra, Jazz FM, Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, Robert Elms and more, with print features in Jazzwise and MOJO magazines and editorial playlisting on DSPs.
"The breezy, summery ultra-funk… is joined by fresh instrumental pieces that explore bossa, jazz-funk and heavy post-hip hop Roy Hargroves style whoopass jazz-breaks, and it's all good!" – Truth and Lies Music
