A solo exhibition by Beverley-Jane Stewart celebrating Jewish life in Britain down the centuries.

Join the National Holocaust Museum for an exclusive event in which the artist will be telling some of the fascinating stories depicted in these paintings, in conversation with notable historian and outstanding public speaker, Charles Landau. Charles has a passion for history, Jewish history and comparative religion. Beverley-Jane and Charles will hold a joint talk and Q&A about the Jewish community in Britain.

Jews first came to England with William the Conqueror in the 11th Century but after continual abuse and violence against them, were expelled by Edward I in 1290.

Readmission was not permitted until 1655 by Oliver Cromwell. Although civic restrictions were not lifted for another 200 years, Jewish communities were left to grow in Britain, mostly in peace, from that time on.

Beverley-Jane Stewart’s vibrant, large-scale oil paintings depict the colourful contribution made by Britain’s Jews to their local communities, forging a strong dual British and Jewish identity. Many have misunderstood this duality – the Nazis being the ultimate example of seeing Jewish people as ‘other’.

You are invited to view the works at your leisure. They also invite you to explore the two permanent museum exhibitions and stunning gardens.

All-inclusive ticket entitles you to:

- ‘In Conversation’ live event

- Admission to the ‘L’Chaim exhibition and the rest of the Museum and Memorial Gardens
