"virtuosos" (The Guardian), "electric" (Okayplayer), and "absolutely crazy good" (Gilles Peterson)...lvdf provides a platform for this extraordinary group to develop new compositions and craft a unified band voice, creating music that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Variously described as "virtuosos" (The Guardian), "electric" (Okayplayer), and "absolutely crazy good" (Gilles Peterson), all members are prolific musicians, leaders, and solo artists in their own right. lvdf provides a platform for this extraordinary group to develop new compositions and craft a unified band voice, creating music that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Grounded in contemporary grooves and production aesthetics, lvdf pushes boundaries through fearless improvisation and cohesive interplay among its members.
Originally an acronym for La Via Del Ferro—Italian for "The Iron Way" – lvdf references the ancient trade routes that connected the Italian iron industry to Europe and beyond. The project was born out of a collaborative workshop in the coastal Tuscan town of Follonica. This metaphor of a road connecting a local industry to the wider world resonates deeply with the band's members. Hailing from Italy, New Zealand, and the UK but residing in Paris, London, and New York, their music became a road that united them.
Since their formation, lvdf has played at renowned festivals, including the London Jazz Festival, Cambridge Jazz Festival, Bergamo Jazz Festival and Grey Cat Jazz Festival, alongside successful club tours in Italy and a sold-out performance at London's legendary Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.
Line up:
Alex Hitchcock – saxophone
Maria Chiara Argirò – piano, synths
Michelangelo Scandroglio – double bass
Myele Manzanza – drums
