Come and make a personalised wall hanger at this macrame workshop.
In this workshop, you will learn the most common techniques and knots used when making macrame wall hangings. You will be shown examples of different designs and how to create them. You will then go on to design your own piece.
We will start by choosing our cords and colours and then we will learn a few of the more useful knots such as the square knot, the half-square knot and the double half hitch. After practicing knots, we will look at some patterns and begin our wall hanging.
Sally will help with design tips and how best to approach your project to ensure you finish the workshop with a lovely piece of art that you will be proud to display at home or give to someone as a gift. There will be handouts available for everyone to use on the day as a reference for knots and patterns. These can be taken away with you so you can practice the techniques that you learn at home and hopefully make more lovely wall hanging designs in the future.
Who is the workshop for – suitable for complete beginners.
What is included – All tools and materials are included along with refreshments.
About your tutor Sally:
After working as a photographer for several years, Sally wanted to learn a craft that was more tactile and would help her to relax after a busy day. What started as a small hobby soon grew into a full time hobby and then a business. She now works from home making all sorts of macrame creations from plant hangers to lamp shades, small jewellery pieces to large wall hangings. Sally enjoys making new pieces that she hasn't tried before and finding new ways to create everyday things. She finds macrame to be meditative and believes that it is a fully accessible mindful craft that everyone should try. She loves how pieces made out of cord can turn out to be so beautiful and intricate and hopes to show more people just how interesting macrame can be.
