Peggy's Skylight
Thursday 9th June 2022
Tickets: £12
The septet in jazz is a bit like a 'little big band'- the excitement of all those horns together, combined with the space and intimacy of the small group format.
Matt has performed with soul singers Joss Stone, Mica Paris, Beverley Knight and Angelo Starr. More recently he's been working with singer, guitarist and writer Rosie Frater-Taylor. They recently played at The Jazz Cafe & Ronnie Scott's, with air play on Jazz FM, BBC radio 6 music, and BBC Radio 2.
Matt Carter's Septet was formed during his first year of studying at The Royal Academy of Music. In that time, he has performed at many of the country's leading jazz venues, and this year will be taking the band into the recording studio to record his debut album. The line-up features some of the UK's best young jazz musicians, playing dynamic compositions and arrangements of Great American Songbook standards.
Matt's writing has been compared to Marty Paich, and he is heavily influenced by west coast jazz from the 50's and 60's. Expect swinging soli sections, and dynamic solos from this young and extremely talented line-up.
Line up:
Matt Carter – piano
Joe Lee – bass
Luke Tomlinson – drums
George Jefford – trumpet
Jonny Ford – tenor sax
Tom Smith – alto sax
Harry Maund – trombone
