Flamenco: Orígenes celebrates the multitude of art forms that fed into the evolution of Flamenco. Traceable, Flamenco's roots to the four corners of the earth, from ancient trade roots to modern shipping lanes. Throughout the show, the six performers journey from one continent to the next, following how different peoples moved through Andalusia, bringing their art with them.
The sub-styles of Flamenco are called Palos, and during the show, you see how these Palos have grown out of different cultures; like the Guajiras that originated in Cuba, or the Peteneras which has Sephardic roots. Orígenes has been a journey of discovery for the artists too, leading them to delve deep in search of almost-forgotten knowledge, and to imagine what the cultural life of Andalusia could have been like centuries ago.
Lourdes Fernández and her Flamenco Company welcome you to join us on this epic adventure spanning multiple continents and hundreds of years and discover more about the beautifully rich art form they now call Flamenco.
