The Parallel History Project focusses on the experiences of the second generation Windrush migrants who were born and grew up here in Nottingham, now in their 50's and 60's. Having spent a lifetime here, being classified as British, often not feeling quite English, creating and living a 'Parallel history' to many of their counterparts. Arguably, this group of people have had a profound impact on British culture in modern times. The documentary looks to begin to tell their story.
The documentary is split into five parts;
1. School Days – Chronicles experiences and expectation around education at the time
2. Community Development – Looks at the atmosphere that lead to the need to create community organisations and community support structures.
3. Social commentary from participants who are over 60 years of age, with an emphasis on music, fashion and the social climate
4. Social commentary from participants who were over 50 years of age, with an emphasis on music, fashion and the social climate
5. Black Women – What was it like being Black and female. What were some of the experiences and expectations?
