Join us for a vibrant and relaxing Sunday afternoon as Sounds of Latin America brings together world-class musicians for a rich musical journey across the Caribbean and South America. This special lunchtime concert blends Peggy's exquisite dining with the irresistible rhythms and melodies of Latin America.
At the heart of the performance is Venezuelan guitarist and vocalist Ernesto "Renán" Uquillas, an artist whose distinguished international career spans television, major orchestras, and renowned jazz venues across the Americas. From performing with the celebrated Los Melódicos Orchestra to appearances at the Caracas Jazz Festival and collaborations with icons such as Paquito d'Rivera and Claudio Roditi, Renán brings authenticity, depth, and charisma to every performance. His musical voice is deeply rooted in Venezuelan, Brazilian, and Latin traditions, all infused with a sophisticated jazz sensibility.
Joining him is the Edgar Macías Quartet, led by UK-based Venezuelan pianist Edgar Macías, a highly respected and versatile musician whose career includes collaborations with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, David Murray, and Scott Hamilton. A regular performer at top UK jazz venues including the 606 Club in London and Peggy's Skylight, Macías is known for his dynamic interpretations of Latin jazz and his compelling stage presence.
Together, they present an engaging repertoire inspired by legends such as Ibrahim Ferrer and Ry Cooder of Buena Vista Social Club, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Armando Manzanero, Clare Fischer, Aldemaro Romero, Carlos Gardel, among others, alongside original compositions. Audiences can expect a colourful fusion of styles including Cuban Son, Salsa, Bossa Nova, Samba, Bolero, Tango, and Venezuelan rhythms such as Joropo, Onda Nueva, and the evocative Venezuelan Waltz.
The ensemble features an exceptional lineup: Ernesto "Renán" Uquillas (guitar & vocals), Chris Bowden (flute, alto & tenor sax, hand percussion), Edgar Macías (piano & vocals), Tom Hill (bass & vocals), and Miles Levin (drums). Together, they create a captivating musical experience full of groove, elegance, and spontaneity.
