Classic swinging straight-ahead jazz in the tradition of their idols, Joe Magnarelli of the New York scene and four of Europe's most valuable and experienced musicians, present energetic, soulful and swinging music on the highest level "Jazz at its Best"!!
This international all-star-quintet brings together top trumpet player Joe Magnarelli of the New York scene and four of Europe's most valuable and experienced musicians who share the same love: classic swinging straight-ahead jazz in the tradition of their idols and mentors such as Thad Jones, Kenny Dorham, Pepper Adams and Cedar Walton, the true "Giants of Jazz".
Joe Magnarelli has been one of the world's leading trumpeters for three decades. In 1991 he founded the New York Hard Bop Quintet and led further own groups with John Swana and Jerry Weldon. He also worked as a sideman with Toshiko Akiyoshi, Laverne Butler, Harry Connick, Jr., the Buddy Rich Band, Maria Schneider, Grant Stewart, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Ray Barretto, and many more.
His partner in the front line is Rik van den Bergh from Rotterdam who has dedicated himself to the baritone saxophone only. He has shared the stage with, among others, Dick Oatts, Teddy Edwards, Don Braden, Gary Smulyan, Jim Rotondi and Ronnie Cuber. His latest quartet record "Is That So?" was released by ZenneZ Records.
The rhythm section is formed by three of Europe's most experienced and established sidemen, who have worked in various projects with many jazz legends.
Rob Barron is a mainstay of the London Jazz and Studio scene and has been described as "one of the most creative and versatile musicians of his generation". Rob appears regularly with the BBC Big Band and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra.  Rob's piano style evokes a passion for the American tradition and cites Wynton Kelly, Cedar Walton and Hank Jones as major influences both in his playing and arranging style.
Bassist Jeremy Brown is a well-known figure on the European jazz scene and has collaborated with a long list of international jazz stars.
The Austrian drummer Bernd Reiter, winner of the Hans Koller Prize in 2006 and now living in Paris, has worked with many stars and legends such as Harold Mabern, Kirk Lightsey, Don Menza, Steve Grossman, Charles Davis, Eric Alexander, Cyrus Chestnut, and many more.
This outstanding quintet presents energetic, soulful and swinging music on the highest level with professionalism and enthusiasm, just "Jazz at its Best"!!
