The Shipstone St Jazz Orchestra

A 17-piece big band, celebrating their 20th year with toe-tapping vocal & instrumental classics. For their return visit to Peggy's they welcome drummer Andrew Wood to lead the band: one of the East Midlands' foremost jazz musicians.

The Shipstone Street Jazz Orchestra was formed in 2005 and has been entertaining Nottingham audiences with their toe-tapping swing and Latin for the past 20 years. Initially based at The Lion at Basford, they acquired their name from nearby Shipstone Street. Following lockdown they moved to a larger rehearsal hall in Bilborough.

They are regulars on the local jazz circuit, including playing The Lion's Sunday jazz café, opening Wollaton Hall's new concert series in 2024 and making their debut at Peggy's Skylight earlier this year. Following their sell-out gig they are delighted to have been invited back!

Previous bandleaders have included Paul Deats, who left in 2019 to establish Peggy's. He was followed by Andrew 'Woody' Wood who will be the band's guest conductor for this performance.

The current bandleader is Tony Lovell from Nottingham Music Hub, and the younger players have been recruited from the Hub's Robin Hood Youth Orchestra, joining the older and longer-standing members. Vocalist Sandy Bailey completes the line-up.
