Tipitina deliver their own unique take on the blues, boogie and gospel of New Orleans, in the footsteps of Professor Longhair, Dr. John, Fats Domino and Allen Toussaint. Singer Debbie Jones is a powerhouse, pianist Justin Randall is simply the most exciting piano player this side of Louisiana.
"a joyous ride through up-tempo, feel-good rockers and gospel-tinged blues – Tipitina are a barnstorming live act, few do this with such conviction." – Rock'n'Reel Magazine
"This is much that breathes New Orleans, feels New Orleans and just takes you to New Orleans – and that is because Tipitina do it all so well.." – Jefferson Magazine
Tipitina: Delivering the Blues, Gospel, Barrelhouse and Rhythm & Blues of New Orleans, a hugely talented combo performing the red hot and rocking New Orleans of Doctor John, James Booker, Professor Longhair and Fats Domino. Though not a jazz band, there's enough jazz in there for Tipitina to be voted 3rd in the Best Small Group category of the British Jazz Awards, as well as being awarded runner-up in the jazz category of the Urban Music Awards.
The band have long been the leading attraction at the Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival, sell-out favourites at Ronnie Scotts, and are favourites at both the Upton Jazz and Upton Blues Festivals. They were also asked to represent the Royal Albert Hall in the West End Live Festival.
Tipitina's two CDs both enjoyed extensive airplay and on their trip to New Orleans they performed at that City's clubs and were the subject of a four page feature in The New Orleans Times-Picayune, the most important publication in Louisiana.
Singer Debbie Jones is a powerhouse. Her roots are in Gospel – she was featured singer on six of the 24 tracks on the EMI "Best Gospel Album – Ever" – she rocks and she rolls through the wonderful music of New Orleans with style and personality. Meanwhile, Pianist Justin Randall is quite simply the finest and most exciting piano player in this idiom from outside of Louisiana.
"A wonderful CD, it superbly captures how this incredible band sound au naturel – phenomenal. 10/10," – Blues in Britain
Line up: Debbie Jones – Lead Vocals and Acoustic Guitar Justin Randall – Piano Nick Millward – Drums Tom Hill – Bass Andy 'Postie' Jones – Guitar
