Trio Manteca

Blending Afro-Cuban grooves with modern jazz harmony and improvisation, Trio Manteca captures the essence of jazz's global heartbeat—alive with passion, rhythmic drive, and the freedom of creative expression.

A piano trio devoted to the spirit and rhythm of Latin jazz. Inspired by Dizzy Gillespie's song 'Manteca' they blend Afro-Cuban grooves with modern jazz harmony and improvisation.

Featuring piano, bass, and drums, the trio reimagines works by the likes of Dizzy, Herbie Hancock, Wes Montgomery, Joe Henderson, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Freddie Hubbard through a vibrant Latin lens. Their performances move effortlessly from fiery montunos to reflective ballads, celebrating both swing and subtlety.

Rooted in tradition yet forward-looking, Trio Manteca is passionate, alive with rhythmic drive and the freedom of creative expression.

Line up:

Paul Deats – piano

Simon Paterson – electric bass

Steve Smith – drums
