Wednesday 22nd November | 5.30pm - 8.30pm
Debbie Bryan, Lace Market Nottingham
Create your own festive willow star using the traditional craft of willow weaving. Add the optional extra of some twinkly lights and you'll have a beautiful decoration to treasure that you can proudly say…"I made that!"
Working under the skilful instruction of Gerry Rennie, willower weaver, allotmenteer and happy wrangler of 3 sons, 2 dogs and 2 chickens!
You will begin with the challenge of creating the framework for your 5-pointed star before choosing from a selection of UK farmed willow to fill in each point. You'll learn a whole slew of new words to describe the materials, the weaving patterns and what the shape of the star has in common with the Mona Lisa.
As you weave, Gerry will explain more about the willow that in use, where it has come from, how it is grown, harvested and how the different colours are achieved.
The willow will be carefully prepared beforehand (this can take up to a week) and each person in the workshop will be supplied with an individual set of tools required to create this seasonal delight.
What's provided for your Christmas workshop with Debbie Bryan:
Enough pliable willow to create a 30 cm, 5 pointed star
Secateurs
Hanging twine
2m of battery operated lights in warm white
All your willow weaving materials are provided with a glass of mulled wine and sweet treat.
