Have a doubly spectacular weekend of cinema at Bartons

The Cambridge Film Festival, with kind support from Broadway Cinema, will be hosting a weekend of film in the unique setting of Bartons in Chilwell. The garage, which used to house the company's fleet of buses for over 100 years, will see these iconic vehicles parked up alongside classic cars, providing just some of the seating from which the audience can enjoy a programme of films old and new. As Bartons prepare to welcome Spectacular! Spectacular!, we caught up with Tony & Vicky from the Cambridge Film Trust to find out more about the event. Q. Where did the idea behind the festival come from? A. Tony Jones the Cambridge Film Festival director received a call from Bartons last year regarding drive-in cinema and although he didn't help with that project he fell in love with the garage as a special venue for cinema. Q. What makes the setting for the festival so unique? A. Vintage buses, cars  and Nottinghamshire's transport history right here! Q. You’re showing a nice selection of new releases and classics, how did you select the programme for the whole weekend? A. We were trying to find films to suit the venue, films to suit a wide range of audiences,  films to gather people together to view the wonderful vehicles and exchange ideas and thoughts on the different programmes. We are also very lucky that Neil Brand, a talented musician who plays music to accompany silent films, wanted to be involved as he always is with the Cambridge Film Festival.  His shows are afternoon and evening -  one is a family show -  and it really is unmissable entertainment! Q. Tell us a bit more about MACE’s involvement? A. MACE are providing customised programmes on show throughout the weekend. The films are transport-themed or based on local characters or areas such as the Lace Market. You can even watch a journey of one of the old Bartons buses through Nottingham.
